Here is an excellent linguist’s view (structural ambiguity intended) on the controversial UK SPaG test that Carmen Ebner wrote about on this blog a short while ago. Three days ago, Jane Hodson from the University of Sheffield published an online article called “The grammar police belong in the 18th century – let’s not inflict their rules on today’s children”. As I’m writing this, there are 16 comments on the article already: you might like to add your own, either here on on the original site.
Great article by Jane Hodson! And even more interesting when I learned that 11-year-olds at local-authority-maintained schools were not introduced until 2013. Who could have imagined ;)?
