German prescriptivism

Is there a German complaint tradition?” was a question I asked on this blog just over four years ago. Two readers responded (for which I was really grateful), but meanwhile, I found this book. The title does not say a great deal, that is, it isn’t immediately clear that this book is about German Sprachkultur, but it discusses usage guides, the German complaint tradition and everything else I needed for a paper which I originally gave at the 7th Prescriptivism conference in Aix-en-Provence in the summer of 2024. Also, at important points it compares the German tradition with the English one. The only thing missing, from my perspective, was an account of the Dutch tradition. But that is where my own paper comes in, comparing all three traditions – in the context of what are known as Sandwich Languages. So thank you Nils and Winifred: you published a great book, a must-read for anyone interested in prescriptivism.
